Medical Nutrition Therapy was established as a vital service category under the Ryan White program due to its critical necessity during the early stages of the HIV pandemic. People living with HIV (PLHIV) frequently encountered challenges such as malnutrition, weight loss, and other nutritional deficiencies stemming from the virus itself, its treatment, and related complications. While treatment advancements have reduced the prevalence of these issues, PLHIV still benefit from additional nutritional support to effectively manage medication side effects and meet their dietary needs.
One of our funded providers under Food Bank/Home Delivered Meals offers a program that aligns closely with this option. They collaborate with clients' medical providers to tailor meal plans to address health and nutritional requirements. Additionally, insurance covers these services, and there hasn't been any indication of a need from the community or providers for additional coverage in this area.
