Program Overview

The Ryan White program emerged from grassroots community care efforts and peer support networks established at the onset of the HIV pandemic, later formalized as Psychosocial Support and Peer Support services (PSS). Peers have been instrumental in guiding each other through complex systems, offering support to the newly diagnosed, and providing comfort. As systems have evolved, the demand for peer support has also grown. Many individuals find formal services inaccessible and seek connection with someone who has firsthand experience living with HIV, especially during the early stages after diagnosis.

DHR Commentary

Our partners at CDPHE have been working on adding Peer Support roles to their programming, which will hopefully build on the ask for more peer support services. The current state has continued to be challenging to manage as it takes time for programs to create or expand their current Psychosocial Support Service (PSS) offerings and are often not at a point of utilizing the funding effectively. We completely understand the need for it and are hoping our partnership with CDPHE/Part B will help expand this to include more than just at a few agencies.
