Program Overview

Oral Health Care became a part of the Ryan White program due to the recognition of the significant oral health challenges faced by people living with HIV (PLHIV). HIV can manifest in various oral health issues, such as oral lesions, infections, and periodontal disease, which can negatively impact overall health and quality of life. Moreover, certain HIV medications may have adverse effects on oral health (like dry mouth, which may contribute to tooth decay, gum disease, and fungal infections).

This service category, along with the Oral Health Fund (OHF), remains a top priority for both the community and providers, and has so for many years. It is also frequently one of the main categories that receives reallocated funds, particularly as in-person visits to offices increase.
