Program Overview

Interpretation and translation services are essential in Ryan White for bridging language barriers, ensuring clear communication, promoting cultural competency, and advancing health equity among diverse linguistic communities accessing HIV care and support. Linguistic Services (LS) has transitioned from being prioritized but unfunded for several years to receiving funding starting FY 2021. Since it was launched, the primary focus has been on document translation (see the Additional LS Data section for more information).

While there is an ongoing need, these services have not been fully deployed as originally intended, and providers are federally obligated to provide translation and interpretation services independently from this specific service category. We do not recommend allocating any funding towards this service category.
