Program Overview

Hospice Services under the Ryan White program was established to offer comprehensive support, including pain management and emotional care to people living with HIV (PLHIV) during the end-of-life stages of HIV progression, ensuring comfort and dignity. It was particularly essential in the early stages of the pandemic when life expectancy post-HIV diagnosis was shorter. Advances in treatment and care have made this service less needed, as people are living longer, healthier lives.

DHR Recommendations

This service was crucial during the early stages of the HIV pandemic. However, with significant improvements in the health and well-being of PLHIV, its demand has decreased, especially since it is also covered by insurance.
